The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to privacy produces a range of public reports that are presented to the UN General Assembly and Human Rights Council. These reports document the Special Rapporteur’s findings and provide guidance and recommendations for UN member states, civil society organizations and others. On this website, the Special Rapporteur’s reports are categorized as follows:

Thematic Reports

These reports focus on a particular thematic issue surrounding the mandate and contain substantive research on that issue, along with recommendations. Thematic reports can be presented before the UN General Assembly in New York or the Human Rights Council in Geneva, and are available to the public, typically in all six official UN languages.

Country Visit Reports

Country reports are produced by the Special Rapporteur after conducting a fact-finding mission to a UN member state. These reports are initially shared with the concerned government, and later made public and presented before the UN General Assembly or Human Rights Council. The government is invited to issue a written response to the report, which is also made public. The Special Rapporteur may then issue follow-up reports at a later date. Country Visit Reports are not always translated into all six official UN languages.
